Diana Dors Delahaye Type 175 Roadster to Fetch 4 Million Pounds

A bespoke Delahaye Type 175 Roadster which was once owned by Dianna Dors is set to go under the hammer and is causing quite a stir. The modified classic was purchased in 1954 by the by the film star when she was just 17 for £5000.

She bought the luxury car from Sir John Gaul before she had even learnt to drive. Dors was known for her love of cars and went on to buy a string of extravagant cars including a Rolls Royce she bought three years after the Delahaye, making her the youngest person to buy one.

The Delahaye was built in 1949 by a coach building firm from the Ukraine called Saoutchik. It was common place for coach builders to heavily modify and design cars for the sole purpose of displaying them at motor shows.

The car was a prize winner and took first prize at the Monte Carlo concourse in 1949 and also took top honours in the San Remo’s Coup de l’Automobile in San Remo during the same year.

During the 1970’s the car was fitted with a engine lifted from a Oldsmobile Colorado, 30 years later the current owner of the car located the original engine which when new produced 165 break horse power (BHP).  Interesting features include the electric blue paintwork and transparent steering wheel made of Lucite.

The history behind the car and its pain-staking renovation between 2000 and 2007 have resulted in an expected selling price of 4 million pounds.
